Your NIH: A 20-Year Perspective
Speakers:

Elias Zerhouni, President, Global Research and Development, Sanofi; former Director, National Institutes of Health
Moderator:

Why "your" National Institutes of Health? Because it's yours in two ways - as a creation of your elected representatives, but also as the organization that has done more over the past century to assure continued progress against disease and continued lengthening of lives than any other institution in the world. Few Americans fully appreciate the NIH role in basic, translational and clinical research or the scope of its dozens of institutes, centers and offices. On this panel, the current NIH Director and two of his predecessors - whose terms span the last 20 years - discuss the impact of the agency's intramural and extramural programs, how they are evolving, and how NIH programs can most effectively integrate with research conducted by private industry, academic medical centers and other agencies in the U.S. and around the world.
