James Watson, the legendary molecular biologist, geneticist, and zoologist, is best known as a co-discoverer of the structure of DNA - the Double Helix - in 1953 with Francis Crick. Along with Crick, and Maurice Wilkins, Watson was awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material." Beginning in 1968, he served as director of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), where he shifted his research emphasis to the study of cancer. In 2007, he became the second person to publish his fully sequenced genome online.
